President of Cercle de Reflexion des Nations
He is Servant of Peace and Sustainable Development
Educated by the Ancients teachings, Michel Thao Chan cultivates high tolerance of politico-economy in all his deeds. A supporter of non-violence and the United Nations peace philosophy, he is deeply convinced that only the “Duty of Man” awakened by virtue can generate within each individual and at the nations scale, efficient actions in favour of sustainable peace and prosperity. For the past 12 years, he has passionately devoted his life to serve this cause .
In this respect, he co-founded the Cercle de Réflexion des Nations (CRN) inaugurated at the United Nations on 25 July, 1994 and became President in January 2000. This international organization with governments participation, aims to achieve concrete peace projects in accordance with the United Nations philosophy. 25 July, 2004 was proclaimed “Peace Social Day” in Washington State ( Longview , Kenso, and Vancouver ). This celebration was also extended to Burkina Faso ( Africa ). This Commemoration gave birth to the movement of ‘ We Are Peace ”.
In 1995, following the Sarajevo massacres, he proposed the inauguration of a hospital-ship project for the United Nations to heal the suffering and destitute humanity. After laborious negotiations, he obtained the official support of the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations.
Convinced that our planet is heading towards disaster by fratricidal wars and unprecedented socio-economic development that lack respect for its unique life space, and the awareness of this emergency could generate within each individual and at the nations scale, efficient actions to save the earth, he conceives two specific programmes for respectively to “ opinion leaders ” and “ executive leaders ”, respectively
In 2002 , he launched the programme of « Doctorate of Peace Administration (DPA) » for training and exchanging between “ opinion leaders ” coming from multiple sectors and countries. Two promotions (“Dag Hammarskjöld » and « Sergio Vieira De Mello”), are under way. Candidates are diplomats, NGO presidents, and religious leaders.
In 2006, he signed a cooperation agreement with Al Akhawayn University ( Morocco ), initiating an anchorage of this programme on an Islamic training ground. The future DPA centres will germinate at the birthplace of needed sustainable peace.
In 2005 , he launched the PhD of «International Governance and Sustainable Development » in partnership with UNITAR (United Nations Institute for Training and Research) and NAPA (National Academic of Public Affairs - Vietnam ). This programme is reserved for Ministers, Vice-Ministers, Cabinet Directors of State Members or Observers of the UN as well as for Presidents of international companies
These two programmes create original conditions of training and exchanges allowing participants to learn mutually by compassion and to generate new knowledge contributing to sustainable peace and development. The graduates of these training programmes will be the power of promotion and deeds of a new peace approach, shared by all human beings and nations.
Michel Thao Chan considers that the protection of our earth must be set up as the “ Duty of Man ”. That was the origin of the “ Declaration of the Duty of Man ”, proclaimed on 1 March, 2006 at United Nations Headquarters.
